Moving: Justin Timberlake has revealed he fought back tears as he attended the Marine Corps ball with Kelsey De Santis in Richmond, Virginia, over the weekend
Justin Timberlake fought back the tears at a Marine Corps Ball he attended, calling the event 'one of the most moving evenings' he has ever experienced.
The Sexy Back singer attended the Instructor Battalion party in Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday night with Corporal Kelsey de Santis, who invited him to be her date in a video she posted on YouTube in July.
One guest said the star, who was dressed in a sharp black tuxedo, 'posed for pictures and seemed like a normal guy'.
'I will never forget it': The star said the night 'changed my life'
He took to his blog yesterday to talk about his moving evening.
The post on the 30-year-old's website starts: 'I'm writing this out to all of you after attending an event that turned out to be one of the most moving evenings I've ever had.
'I knew I would have an evening that I wouldn't forget... Something I could tell my friends about. What I didn't know was how moved I would be by the whole experience.
'I've always been very vocal about my support of our Armed Forces. To say I was stoked to be there would be more than accurate.'
A night to remember: The star accompanied U.S. Marine Cpl. Kelsey de Santis after she issue an invite to him on YouTube
One lucky gal: The singer-turned-actor fulfilled his promise after accepting the invite to the ball
Justin got to know his date better, adding: 'I had the opportunity to sit with Kelsey, get to know her and get a tiny glimpse into what her life as a marine was like. She seemed to me to be so humble and honest... Very cool.
'She also simultaneously seemed like she was nervous about... if I was going to enjoy myself. I have to tell you, it's not every day that I meet a 23-year-old girl and she's more worried about if I'm having fun or if I'm comfortable! I was really blown away.'
But Justin felt overwhelmed as a video about World War II and the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001 was played.
Man of his word: Justin kept his promise to attend the dinner and party
He continued: 'What happened then took me by such surprise that I was almost brought to tears... I was truly moved. I felt so proud to be there. I felt like I was getting a chance to be among my heroes.
'It's funny too because a lot of them are so younger than me. They made me feel so welcome to be there and I'll never forget it... Last night changed my life and I will never forget it.'
De Santis, who practices mixed martial arts, was inspired to reach out to him after he publicly encouraged Mila Kunis, his Friends with Benefits co-star, to accept a similar invitation from a serviceman.
'You want to call out my girl Mila?' De Santis said to Timberlake in her video. 'Well, I'm going to call you out and ask you to come to the Marine Corps ball with me on November 12.'
She added: 'If you can't go, all I have to say is, cry me a river.'
Timberlake said in his post that he and De Santis bonded before the ceremony and that she spoke of her training in mixed martial arts 'with a passion, a discipline, and a respect.'
Kunis is still expected to attend a Marine Corps Ball with Sergeant Scott Moore on November 18 in Greenville, North Carolina.
