Opening up: Jennifer Garner has revealed she regrets marrying her twenties

She is heavily pregnant with her third child to Ben Affleck but ahead of her 40th birthday Jennifer Garner has been reflecting on past experiences.

The actress, 39, who married actor Scott Foley when she was just 22-years-old has revealed that she regrets marrying so young.

Speaking to the Sun Jennifer said: ‘I wish I'd known to wait for marriage until I was 30 or over.

I did marry in my twenties and I found divorce a crushing experience.’

The marriage lasted just four years and the couple divorced in 2004.

Opening up about the experience Jennifer admitted it left her ‘beyond heartbroken,’ but added: ‘But I got up and got on with it. I also kept my belief in marriage.’

Shortly after her divorce from Foley, Jennifer began dating Ben Affleck and the couple married in June 2005.

The acting duo have two daughters together, Violet, six, and Seraphina, three, and they are currently expecting their third child who is due any day now.

In the newspaper interview Jennifer also spoke about her relationship with Affleck.

She explained: ‘Ben is not only my husband, he has helped me in every way. He is the base of my life.

‘He is an incredibly loving and generous man. I expected he would be a great dad and he is. But what really surprised me was how, when something goes wrong, he is so much calmer than I am.’

Jennifer was seen heading for breakfast with her youngest daughter in Brentwood yesterday.

The Butter actress and producer showed off her baby bump in a tight grey top which she teamed with a pair of baggy jeans and a dark grey knitted cardigan.

Jennifer hasn't let her pregnancy get in the way of doing anything and despite the imminent arrival of her baby she has been seen running errands and helping out with parenting duty almost every day.

Different passions: Jennifer Garner's daughters adore their dance classes while Denise Richard's tomboys are football crazy


The question of nature versus nurture has always been a thorny one, and years of expert debate has failed to explain conclusively if it's our genes or environment that shapes us the most.

However, all that extrapolation can be tedious, so look at these two celebrity mothers with their daughters in Los Angeles yesterday, who seem to support the nurture argument.

Jennifer Garner, 38 , and Denise Richards, 40, both appear to have led their little ones in different directions, when it comes to their hobbies, at least.


Garner, who is expecting her first son with husband Ben Affleck, also 39, in a couple of weeks, is frequently seen taking her little girls to and from their ballet classes.

It's a traditional pastime for a young lady, and one that her eldest daughter Violet, five, seems to have embraced whole-heartedly, right down to the fabulous costumes.

Little Seraphina, two, also seems to be getting in on the act, and could be seen twirling around her elder sibling as they left yesterday's class.

Meanwhile, a few miles away, Charlie Sheen's ex-wife was huddled up with her daughters discussing football tactics as they indulged in their favourite pastime.

Sam, seven, and six-year-old Lola were clad in appropriately tomboy-ish strips for their game, at which their mother is an avid cheerleader.

The difference in the children's ages may go some way to explaining the contrasting vignettes.

But it's safe to say that with baby names like Violet and Seraphina under her belt, Garner is quite conventionally feminine when it comes to her tastes.

Richards, on the other hand, opted for a non-gender specific shortening of Samantha for her eldest girl, and Lola is feminine but not flowery.

Both are raising delightful ladies, whatever their tactics or routine.

Jennifer Garner has much to be happy for these days - and she shared her joy while on a playdate with her two-year-old, Seraphina.
The beaming actress was spotted today at a playground in Los Angeles having a great time giving her youngest daughter a piggyback ride, pushing her on the swings and helping her cross the monkey bars.
The 39-year-old mommy-on-duty also has five-year-old daughter Violet with husband Ben Affleck and the couple is expecting their third child.

Embracing her expanding baby bump, Jennifer adorned herself with a violet cotton top, white comfy sweater, a denim skirt, black leggings and flats.
The mother of soon-to-be-three wore her hair down with her face clear of any make-up.
She looked casual and relaxed - compared to her glamorous appearance last night in a sexy LBD on the red carpet at a screening of her new movie Butter during the AFI FEST in Hollywood.
The actress has said in interviews about her maternal style choices: ' You know, I can’t dress up every day, it’s just not in my nature. ... I look at [my clothes] and think 'I can’t be a mom in those clothes.' They just don’t suit me.'

Even though Jennifer and her hubby confirmed she was pregnant for the third time in August, she has yet to announce or confirm the sex of their unborn child.
Although the couple have two beautiful daughters, it is no secret that Ben would like to have a son too.
Back in January of 2010, Jennifer told Us Weekly: 'Ben would like a boy, but I don't want a baby right now.'
Much like their mother, both Violet and Seraphina are quite active. They are taking ballet classes in Brentwood - and they're constantly out on playdates in Santa Monica and Malibu.
And Jennifer is very much about embracing motherhood to the fullest.
A couple of years after the actress gave birth to her first child, Violet, she told People Magazine: 'Having a baby fills your life in such a way that no matter what you're doing, there's something bigger.'

She and husband Ben Affleck announced they were expecting their third child just over a couple of months ago.

And it seems Jennifer Garner's baby bump is blossoming fast.

The 39-year-old actress showed off her growing tummy in a white T-shirt and bright red cardigan as she picked up her daughter Violet from karate class this afternoon in Los Angeles.


A short denim skirt and flat black ballet pumps completed the look.

The hands on mother smiled broadly as she walked with her five-year-old who skipped alongside her happily.

At one point, the little girl even kept her mother amused by demonstrating a few martial arts moves.

However, there was no sign of the actress's other daughter, two-year-old Seraphina today.

Earlier Garner had stepped out for a coffee at the Brentwood Country Mart in California, where she strolled along chatting on her phone.

The star, who is thought to be around five or six months pregnant, recently told Ellen DeGeneres that she wouldn't mind having a third daughter as she grew up in a household of three girls.

'It would be so weird to have a boy,' she said, before adding that it would also be 'cool' and 'different.'

The lone man of the household, husband of six years Ben, is also currently hard at work filming Argo in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Olivia Wilde, co-star in the actress's forthcoming film Butter, said Garner should 'keep breeding.'

'She makes pretty babies,' Wilde raved to Us Weekly this week, before adding, 'She was such an awesome co-star and a wonderful producer.'

Both actresses appear in the upcoming film about a young orphan who discovers an odd talent for creating butter sculptures in the Iowa town where her adoptive family lives.

She's pitted against Garner, who plays the ambitious wife of reigning champion Bob Pickler (Modern Family star Ty Burrell) in the annual butter sculpture competition.

Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone and Hugh Jackman also appear in the ensemble comedy, which hits American theatres October 21.

Jennifer Garner plays the pretty young girlfriend while Helen Mirren is cast as the stern nanny in the new remake of classic comedy Arthur.

But as they walked the red carpet at the New York premiere tonight it wasn't 38-year-old Jennifer who stole the caused a sensation, but 65-year-old Helen.

The veteran actress twirled in her flowing white linen gown, carefully accessorised with a cashmere shawl and pearls.

With a smile on her face she looked every inch the glamorous movie star, made to walk the red carpet.

By contrast Jennifer Garner looked uninspiring in an on trend but uninteresting combination of a woollen sweater and lace pencil skirt.

The pair star in the movie alongside Russell Brand, who dressed in a white suit to co-ordinate with Helen.

The pair, who formed a close friendship during filming, larked around on the red carpet.

When Brand took a break from posing with his co-star's the nattily dressed actor playfully pretended to bite young guest Jake Pauly.

Mirren recevied an Academy Award for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 film The Queen.

Other iconic roles include The Madness of King George, Gosford Park and The Last Station.

In December 2003, Mirren was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE).
