Together again: Simon Cowell and Mezhgan Hussainy were seen leaving a friend's house in Beverly Hills last week after watching the first X Factor USA episode

It had been claimed Simon Cowell and Mezhgan Hussainy had called off their engagement.

But the pair looked happier than ever last week as they left a friend's house after watching the premiere episode of X Factor USA together.

Wearing a sexy low-cut catsuit, make-up artist Mezhgan led the way as the couple headed home after spending the evening with friends.

Cowell followed, clutching a bottle of beer and a packet of cigarettes, after watching the first show of the new series.

However, despite their happy appearance, Mezhgan was not wearing her diamond engagement ring.

Earlier this week, Cowell's spokesperson Max Clifford had denied rumours that the X Factor judge had a new girlfriend, after he was seen with a 'mystery woman'.

He said: 'I spoke to Simon yesterday, he's in LA launching X Factor over there and he said, "Who is the mystery girl as I haven't met her and I don't know her".'

'The same journalist wrote a few weeks ago that he had dinner with Cheryl Cole and he never did. So it's consistent!'

When asked if Simon and Mezhgan were still engaged and planing nuptials Max said: 'Well I don't know about planning a wedding - I think you might have to wait 20 years for Simon to plan a wedding but they are as close as they've ever been.'
