Confessions: Lynda Bellingham leaving Loose Women's studios in London this month, as she reveals her sordid one-night stand
After battling her former drinking addiction, Lynda Bellingham now admits the most humiliating experience that came with it was embarking on a one-night stand.
‘Looking back I’m deeply ashamed. I took a bloke home with me that I had met that evening.
'He was some City type, complete with red braces’, the Loose Women panellist said.
‘He started making love to me and suddenly said: ‘I can’t believe I’m going to f**** the OXO mum’,’ she recalled him saying to her.
The 62-year-old describes the night as ‘mortifying’ and told him to leave as soon as she got up the following morning.
‘Let’s be honest, getting p*****, picking somebody up and taking them back to your house for a one-night stand hoping your children don’t find out – there’s nothing glamorous, outrageous or clever about it at all’, she added.
Lynda, who played the nation’s favourite mother in the OXO commercials, says that her real life was quite the opposite and her one-night stand came as she had hit rock bottom with her drinking problem.
She has opened up about her sex life in her book, Lost and Found by Lynda Bellingham, and told how she’d slept with ‘dozens’ of men throughout her life due to feeling insecure.
‘I felt insecure. I think I associated drink with sex. I needed to get drunk to feel sexy’, Lynda said and added that in the 1960s it seemed acceptable.

Her drinking began in drama college to hide her insecurities about ‘not being witty or pretty enough’, claiming that she wanted to be the ‘life and soul of the party’.
She claimed that male students at her university would make bets on who would take her virginity and says she went ‘on a mission’ to ‘discover the secret of success in bed’.
Lynda, who is now married to her third husband Michael Pattemore, revealed that her experience has shown her that ‘good sex is not about the mechanics, but the emotional involvement.’
The mother-of-two, who she shares with ex-husband Nunzio Peluso, says her current husband Michael is responsible for helping her turn her life around.
When she met the 55-year-old in Spain seven years ago, they were both still heavy drinkers but when Michael gave up drinking after being advised by doctors he’d have a heart attack if he didn’t, he gave her strength to do the same.
Michael almost left Lynda when her drinking got so bad that she wasn’t able to visit her sister in hospital after an accident because she was so out of control, making her vow to give up the bottle.
Lynda says she hasn’t drunk for almost six years now and has finally found happiness after her battle with alcohol, an abusive ex-husband and her sexual past.
She hopes that by talking about her hard times will give other people hopes that they can come back from sadness and loneliness – and find happiness again.
Lost and Found by Lynda Bellingham, published by Ebury Press, comes out on Thursday at £6.99
