Bundles of Joy: Libby and Harry were born after their mother, Stacy, had three miscarriages
After three miscarriages and failed IVF treatments, Stacy and James Bodle feared they might never have a family of their own.
But they say an experimental fertility treatment using egg yolks and soya oil cured the condition causing the miscarriages and they are now celebrating the arrival of twins Libby and Harry.
‘I’ve hardly slept for the 13 weeks since they were born but I’m not complaining,’ said Mrs Bodle, 30. ‘They have been the happiest weeks of our lives.
Stacy and James Bodle endured years of heartbreak as they tried to start a family but an undetected medical condition caused Stacy to repeatedly miscarry after falling pregnant with Harry, left, and Libby
‘We were trying for three years for a family and we started to think this day would never come. There were so many awful times and to sit here and see our lovely twins staring back at us is wonderful.’
The treatment involved a combination of natural fats made up from egg yolks and soya oil. Doctors believe this intralipid liquid, a calorie-rich potion normally used in tube-feeding sick patients, could help more women achieve their dream of motherhood.

Sarah Jessica Parker
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Doting mother: Sarah Jessica Parker spent yesterday with her twin daughters in Manhattan
She's famous for playing the hippest fashionista who ever walked the streets of Manhattan, but isn't it refreshing to see Sarah Jessica Parker like this?
The 46-year-old actress spent yesterday with her 22-month-old twin daughters in Manhattan, in a casual outfit that would no doubt horrify alter ego Carrie Bradshaw.
But then wafer-thin Carrie, who pirouettes through the city's streets in heels and mini-skirts - often with a giant flower on her head, always tries a bit too hard.
Wardrobe malfunction: Parker unwittingly reveals undergarments as tends to daughter
And it's very hard to manage toddlers while wearing Manolo Blahniks, after all.
It's a refreshingly normal outfit from Parker, who normally tries to promote the cutting-edge fashion at the heart of her juggernaut of a franchise.
Clearly her focus for the day is firmly upon her twin daughters Marion and Tabitha.
A lovely sight: Parker looked refreshingly normal on day out with her girls
It was quite a transformation, from Carrie with cigarette and phone in either hand, to the working mum with pram and toddlers in tow.
Parker even shrugged off a wardrobe malfunction with a smile, as she bent over to tend to one of her beautiful daughters.
The trio enjoyed the morning at a playground before heading to buy groceries, where Parker checked a recipe list carefully.
The star even carried her own shopping bags, and still looked as chic as Carrie wielding a clutch bag.
And while her clothes weren't sharp, the response to reports that Parker leaves the bulk of her childcare to two nannies, was implicitly so.
Silencing critics: Parker even did her own grocery shopping
Working mother: Parker checks her recipe list as she shops
Showbiz, me?: Parker even carries her own shopping bags

Justin Bieber
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

I had a cracking time: Justin Bieber waves to fans as he takes a plane out of Sydney today bound for Melbourne after being egged on stage on Friday night
After getting pelted on stage, it seemed Justin Bieber was in no mood for an Egg McMuffin meal.
Instead, the teen singer settled for a Burger King as he was spotted jetting out of Sydney, Australia, today.
The 17-year-old star had the embarrassing misfortune of being egged on Friday night during a performance in front of thousands of screaming fans at the the city's Acer Arena.
The tour continues: Bieber was spotted carrying a Burger King as he boarded the aircraft earlier today
Footage of the incident showed two eggs landing within a metre of the Canadian superstar.
Then four more eggs appeared to fall from directly above the singer, prompting some internet users to question if the incident was all a set-up.
According Australia's Herald Sun, Justin didn't miss a beat during the egg incident.
Playing it casual: The singer was dressed in jeans and a hoodie teamed with red and black trainers
He continued performing as a helper quickly cleaned up the mess.
The egg attack outraged many Biebers fans who quickly took to the internet.
One web user named Taylor wrote on Thejustinbiebershrine.com: 'I was soo angry when I saw this, I hate whoever did this. Why bother?'
Justin doesn't crack: The superstar singer was pelted with eggs, but he didn't miss a beat and continued performing
What just happened? Some of Justin's stunned fans took to the internet to complain about the egg incident
Another fan took to Twitter a warning: 'Dear person who threw eggs at @justinbieber in Sydney, you now have over #9millionbeliebers after you, be afraid! We go harder than hard!'
Skynews Australia posted a short video of the incident on Youtube a short time after it happened.
Justin is now heading to Melbourne where he will perform on Monday and Tuesday night as part of his My World Tour.

Tattoo
By Emily Sheridan

OMG it hurts': Katie Price posted a photo of herself getting a new tattoo by Mariano Antonio (right) at the American Tattoo parlour in Buenos Aires
Many visitors to Argentina end up going home with a traditional mate cup, tango music recordings or Che Guevara memorabilia.
But Katie Price decided to commemorate her romantic trip to her new boyfriend Leandro Penna's native country in a rather different way - by getting a new tattoo.
The glamour model, 32, opted to have another etching added to her inner left arm - alongside her older designs of a crown and her daughter's name 'Princess'.
Price also had her first husband Peter Andre's Christian name above the crown, but had a cross tattooed on top of it in soon after they split in 2009.
But as she posted a photo of herself apparently getting another tattoo in the same place - perhaps she is finally covering up all trace of her tribute to her ex.
Although she teased fans by announcing she had a new tattoo and posting a photo on her Twitter page, the glamour model declined to show fans what it looked like, preferring to wait a few days for the redness to subside.
She wrote: 'In the middle of having a new tattoo ...OMG it HURTS grrrr ahhhhhh.'
I can't look: Katie fixes her gaze on boyfriend Leandro Penna as Antonio tattoos her arm
Her tattooist Mariano Antonio, from the American Tattoo boutique in the upmarket Buenos Aires area of Recoleta, also Tweeted: 'Gorgeous Katie Price is getting a tattoo now! Lovely lady ;) and handsome Leandro Penna. A cute couple.'
He also uploaded a photo of him in action with the needle and promised followers his work of art would be ready for viewing soon.
When one Twitter user asked the tattooist what design he etched on her skin, he replied: 'She's gonna show you in a few days!'
Price's new tattoo will be her sixth in total - she also has a ribbon around her right ankle hanging down over her foot and a bow on her lower back.
Before and after: Is Price getting a new design over her 'Pete' tattoo - which she had crossed out (right) during a trip to Ibiza soon after their 2009 split?
Her decision to get a sixth tattoo contradicts a claim she made last year that she was 'needle-phobic' while she described going through IVF with soon-to-be second ex-husband Alex Reid.
Antonio is the same tattooist who etched a spiral design across 25-year-old Penna's back in March - just a couple of weeks after he met Price at Elton John's post-Oscar party in Los Angeles.
She told fans she would be returning to the UK this week as she is due to sign some of her books at a WHSmith in Welwyn Garden City in Herts on Saturday.
She's been in Argentina since April 15 after just a week back in Britain following her initial trip to Buenos Aires, which lasted just four days.
During her trip, she's met Penna's parents Mercedes and Hector and enjoyed lots of sports, including sky-diving and horse-riding.
Body art: The glamour model also has a ribbon on her right ankle and a pink bow on her lower back
Last week, the couple narrowly avoided serious injury after their car crashed when two horses suddenly ran into the road.
Her spokesperson told MailOnline at the time: 'The accident was quite horrific and she was quite shaken up but after she visited the chapel she did get on a horse for five or ten minutes as they were horses at the hotel where they were staying.'
It is understood the mother-of-three suffered cuts on her hands and a jarred neck after the incident, which happened at 1.30am on April 23 around three miles from their hotel Estancia San Pedro Viejo in Cordoba.
And witnesses said the only reason she and the Argentine model survived the crash.
Meanwhile, Price's two youngest children Junior and Princess have been holidaying in Cyprus with their father, her ex-husband Peter Andre.

Christina Aguilera
By Daily Mail Reporter

Close: Christina Aguilera goes through security at LAX yesterday with boyfriend Matt Rutler
The TSA officers at LAX airport probably needed to prise Christina Aguilera and boyfriend Matt Rutler apart to do their routine searches yesterday.
Aguilera, 30, and her 25-year-old other half couldn't keep their hands off one another as they arrived at the airport and went through security.
It's been a great week for the singer after her new show The Voice was proclaimed a ratings hit, beating Dancing with the Stars and Glee on Tuesday night.
The mum-of-one, who recently became a free woman again after her divorce from music producer Jordan Bratman, 33 , celebrated her success with Rutler on Wednesday by dining at Beverly Hills steakhouse Boa.
The new show which also stars Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as musical coaches to aspiring singing stars bagged 11.8 million total viewers, leaving ABC's Dancing with the Stars and Fox's Glee trailing.
Christina gushed about the concept: 'It was just undeniable. It takes music back to a time when there weren’t any music videos, or any access to the internet, and it’s about the real voice.'
Always together: Aguilera and Rutler seemed to be glued together at the airport
Tactile: The TSA must've had their work cut out with the pair
Happier times: Aguilera seems to be entering a renaissance period
The critical reviews were mixed, however, Ken Tucker in Entertainment Weekly said of the show: 'It was a garish bore... less about the strenuous voices of the singers than the yammering voices of its celebrity 'coaches.'
Aguilera needs to take her victories where she can find them though, after the terrible few months she's just endured.
The singer, who has three-year-old son Max with Bratman, has had a difficult year - which started after her album Bionic flopped last June.
Hit: Aguilera on NBC's The Voice
As well as that very public divorce, the star also fluffed her lines when she sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl in February.
And shortly after she tripped and fell on stage during a performance at the Grammy Awards.
Then she and Rutler were taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, though both were cleared.
To top that, it emerged that hundreds of private photos of the singer in bed with Rutler were being hawked to celebrity website RadarOnline - although they were not published.

Pippa Middleton
By Jan Moir

Glamorous: The Duchess of Cambridge's only sister has become an overnight sensation following her sister's wedding to Prince William
A life can change in a moment. And certainly something seismic happened to Pippa Middleton when she stepped out of the car at Westminster Abbey.
As far as the world is concerned, it was BC and AD. Before the Church, then After the Dress.
Yes, Kate’s glorious bridal gown rightly grabbed all the headlines. But smoking hot on her heels was lil’ sis, poured into a column of buttermilk satin, in a button-backed dress that was tighter than a coat of paint.
True, its unforgiving structure meant Pippa had to mince up and down the Abbey aisle like a geisha with corns, but it was worth it.
After all, her role as maid of honour was a secondary one. Hold the bouquet, keep smiling, don’t let the bride get spinach on her teeth.
Most importantly, she had to attend to a majestic bridal train that was almost nine feet long. A duty that required a lot of bending over.
So if you have to do this in front of a global audience of billions, you might as well bunny dip in an unforgettable frock that is going to maximise your best asset.
Mince, mince, mince, dip, dip, dip, she went; our glorious Pippa the Big Dipper. Not since the first Panzer tank turned and fled at the battle of El Alamein has a rear end made such an impression on the world.
The impact has been incredible. So much so it is no exaggeration to say everything has changed for Pippa.
Party girl: Pippa Middleton is almost unrecognisable from her University days. She loves fancy dress
In one shake of a tail feather, she has become a global celebrity, a household name and one of the most talked about people at the wedding of the century. More than that, she is now one of the most eligible women in the world.
F ROM this moment on, Pippa can have her pick of the aristocracy, the landed gentry, the new rich, assorted gassy celebrities, the Chelsea back four.
Anyone really, up to and including Prince Harry, if his wolfish expression was anything to go by.
One could understand if her current beau, Alex Loudon, 30, starts to look worried.
The lantern-jawed banker is the rich scion of a stately home, former cricket international and friend of Prince William’s since Eton. But will he be enough to keep Pippa?
For in the three days since the wedding, her stock has soared a million-fold. She’s in big, big demand.
American magazines will want to put her on their covers, fashion designers will want her to wear their creations and dukes will be queuing up to marry her.
Not to mention the swarms of rogues and rascals who will want to distil some of that royal potency for their own dastardly ends.
Fun: Pippa sports a Burberry cap and a fake barbed wire tattoo to pose as a chav. At another party she wrapped herself in toilet paper
Joker: Pippa is known for her fun-loving party attitude and is usually the centre of attention when out and about
As has been said before, Pippa is the Middleton who gets the best deal out of the royal romance; all of the attention, without the responsibility and restraint of protocol.
Yet no one could have imagined that the confetti of global approval would shower around her quite so explosively. And as her appeal hits hitherto unimaginable heights, the question is: just what will Pippa do with her new-found fame?
The new Duchess of Cambridge might be content to bumble back to the relative anonymity of being an RAF wife in Anglesey, but what about Pippa? Will she be able to restrain herself from turning down the clarion call to become a celebrity?
For a girl like Pippa, who has always had the flinty spark of ambition in her pretty eyes, the temptation to capitalise must be overwhelming.
Since William and Kate started dating, the discreet Middletons have barely put a foot wrong — give or take a few unwise ‘royal’ items on their party planning website — but if anyone’s going to break ranks and smash the royal glass ceiling (not to mention Cinderella’s glass slipper) you can bet it will be Pippa.
For now that her appetite has been whetted, what will she do to trump this stardust moment of global attention?
Pippa has always loved the limelight her sister’s relationship has brought, and there has always been the suspicion that hanging back in the shadows has been frustrating.
Now that she’s emerged as the more glamorous and sexy half of the world’s best-known sister act, it seems unlikely she will be prepared to melt back into those shadows.
Perhaps the prospect of a safe marriage to a rich banker like Alex and a career as a party planner will pale beside the treats now on offer to her in the great finger buffet of life.
Her personal history suggests she might be tempted. Philippa Charlotte Middleton is Carole and Michael Middleton’s second daughter and their middle child. She grew up in Berkshire and, like her sister and younger brother, attended Marlborough College in Wiltshire. Then she studied English Literature at Edinburgh University.
There, her social ambitions flourished. Pippa made it her business to hang out with the kind of men who mattered. To her, at any rate.
Rear of the year: Pippa Middleton's rear became one of the most talked about things on the internet
Her Royal Hotness: The 27-year-old has received a huge amount of attention since she was her sister's bridesmaid
Her Edinburgh flatmates were Lord Edward Innes-Ker, a son of the Duke of Roxburgh, and Earl Percy, heir to the Duke of Northumberland. Her boyfriends appear to have leapt from the pages of a Jilly Cooper novel; they include Jonathan ‘JJ’ Jardine Paterson, an heir to the Hong Kong Jardine Matheson property fortune, Scottish aristocrat Billy More Nesbitt and diamond heir Simon Youngman. Flash.
After graduation, Pippa managed to arrange a not-too-taxing career combining the two main interests in her life — partying and networking.
She worked at London events planner Table Talk and last year began writing the online magazine for her parents’ party business.
In 2008 she was named Number One Society Singleton by Tatler magazine, eclipsing her new brother-in-law’s cousin Princess Eugenie. She has been waiting for her moment — has it finally arrived? Some say Pippa is far too cool to cash in and that she would never endanger her sister’s reputation. But Kate is married and there’s not so much to lose.
A different set of rules apply now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have left the centre stage to start married life together.
For years, Pippa was straining at the leash. She would arrange personal interviews and photo shoots, only to pull out at the last moment. What happens next is anyone’s guess.
O NE THING is sure: whatever she decides to do or not do, she is on the threshold of a potent kind of celebrity, even if it is only by royal association.
In any other world, she might be just another party planner with a clipboard, swoosh of fabulous hair and some good ideas about table placements. In the orbit of the Duchess of Cambridge, she can become a star.
Joker: Even Prince Harry couldn't resist trying to charm the younger sibling of his new sister-in-law
I'll be back: Pippa Middleton leaves the Goring Hotel with her family after her sister's wedding but is sure to be in the spotlight again
It has been a remarkable ascent. Before the wedding was over, several Facebook sites were set up in honour of her sainted bottom. Everyone is raving about the 27-year-old brunette dubbed Her Royal Hotness, now and for ever more.
Despite her un-Windsorish fondness for toffee-coloured fake tan, Pippa almost stole the royal wedding show. However, let us not forget that what was mostly on show was a sweet mutual respect and sisterly solidarity between the Middleton girls.
Pippa looked thrilled and proud, executing her maid of honour duties with unshowy aplomb. Kate was generous and kind to allow her sister to shine in such a slinky, attention-grabbing, mini-bride outfit.
Indeed, a less munificent bride would have drowned Pippa in an avalanche of knicker pink taffeta ruffles, just to be on the safe side.
Let us hope the Duchess of Cambridge does not come to regret this act of sororial generosity.
For now that glamorous Pippa is out of her box, she might never want to climb back in again. She is ready for her close-up, Mr DeMille! Lights, camera, bunny dip and dip again.
However, I do wonder if Kate has unwittingly unleashed the beast at the heart of the Middleton family.
At the end of the day, Pippa is a striking girl with a delightful figure. Nothing more and nothing less. What is amazing, even in this day and age, is what a great dress and proximity to the Royal Family can do to burnish a young woman’s reputation and allure.
Whether or not Pippa Middleton uses this power wisely, we shall have to wait and see.
Forget Pippa, Chelsy's the only girl for Harry
To many, the chemistry between best man Prince Harry and maid of honour Pippa Middleton at the wedding was palpable.
A grinning Harry, 26, was seen telling her as they walked out of Westminster Abbey: ‘You do look very beautiful today – seriously.’
In reality, there is only one woman in his life – on-off girlfriend Chelsy Davy, 25.
But friends, who likened the couple to Romeo and Juliet’s ‘star-crossed lovers’, say their different lives make their relationship difficult. Zimbabwean-born Chelsy enjoys the freedom of Africa, while Harry is bound by his royal duties.
The pair first met in Cape Town in South Africa in 2004 during Harry’s gap year travels. But Chelsy has always fiercely valued her independence – and the fact she is completely un-phased about dating a prince has only made Harry want her more.
They both wear their hearts on their sleeves – which has led to some blazing rows and periods of angry separation.
In 2009 Chelsy quit her legal studies in the UK and returned to Africa, telling friends she ‘could never, ever see herself as a member of the Royal Family’. Harry was devastated. A friend said: ‘When one of her friends asked him when he would be visiting Cape Town again, Harry texted back, “I don’t know. I lost the best thing that ever happened to me and I’m paying for it”.’
But within months they were back together. Chelsy, whose father has made a multi-million-pound fortune selling hunting holidays to wealthy Americans, has moved back to the UK and starts work as a solicitor this autumn.
The week before the wedding the pair flew to Botswana for a brief but romantic holiday. On Thursday Harry visited her at her London flat, and the pair returned to the Belgravia address in the early hours of Saturday.
According to reports, they openly kissed at the Buckingham Palace reception on Friday. One source claimed that the prince nuzzled up to her and whispered: ‘You’re next.’
But another said: ‘Chelsy loves Harry but her heart is back with her family in Africa. She hates all the hoop-la that comes with dating a royal... she says, “All of that fuss, it’s just not for me”.’

William and Catherine
By Rebecca English

And they're orf: Kate and William at Buckingham Palace on Saturday before flying by helicopter for their 'mini-moon'
The newlywed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to honeymoon in a £4,000-a-night villa on one of the most beautiful and romantic islands in the world.
Prince William is to whisk his bride away to a secret hideaway in the Indian Ocean for a ten-day holiday later this month.
It was widely expected that the couple would be going on honeymoon this week after their wedding on Friday. But at the weekend it was announced that the Duke, a search and rescue pilot, would be returning to work tomorrow at RAF Valley on Anglesey.
Despite his status as second in line to the throne he had to apply for leave like his colleagues. He was given a week off for the wedding but was told that he would have to split any further holiday requests – hence the delayed departure date.
Not even Kate is aware of where the couple will be going for their honeymoon but it is understood to be an exclusive island in the Seychelles (Stock image)
The Mail can reveal that the Duke and Duchess are due to fly out by private jet in mid-May before being taken by helicopter from the mainland to the tropical retreat.
Two Scotland Yard protection officers checked the destination a fortnight ago to ensure it would give the couple the privacy they crave. The Mail is not publishing details of the location, and it is understood that not even Kate is aware of the exact destination.
The resort, which is surrounded by coconut groves, offers almost complete isolation. Its white sand beaches are bathed by crystal-clear turquoise waters and are a sanctuary for sea turtles.
Only a handful of luxury villas are dotted across the island. Hand-crafted out of local wood, each has an open-air bathroom area with sunken bath and shower, a private garden and a wooden deck with freshwater rock pool and yoga pavilion.
The couple were seen taking off from Buckingham Palace on Saturday and speculation that their honeymoon had been cancelled over security fears was downplayed
There is a butler on hand in every villa, and a personal chef will conjure up a daily menu based on freshly-caught fish and whatever delicacies the couple wish.
The area is an eco-haven and while snorkelling, kayaking or diving are encouraged, its tranquillity is preserved with a ban on jet skis and similar watersports.
A source said: ‘It’s one of the most incredible places you will ever visit and Kate will have the time of her life. It’s everything you could want from a honeymoon destination and more – beautiful beaches, tropical seas and complete privacy.
‘The prince’s protection officers flew out two and half weeks ago to check it out and their villa has been booked and confirmed.
‘It’s a real Robinson Crusoe kind of place. There are some beautiful hikes, but if you can’t be bothered to walk a golf cart will transport you. They will also deliver you a picnic with ice-cold drinks.
Like everyone else he works with, Prince William had to apply to take time off before the wedding
The couple were seen flying from Buckingham Palace for their 'mini-moon' in a helicopter
‘If you fancy some company there is a little beach bar and a restaurant. Most people, however, prefer to eat meals brought by the butler on the privacy of their deck while watching the sunset.’
Over the weekend the Duke and Duchess have been enjoying a ‘mini-moon’ at a mystery location in the UK. They flew in the Queen’s helicopter from Buckingham Palace on Saturday for a two-night break.
Clarence House refused to reveal their destination, or issue official pictures of the honeymooners. Previous royal newlyweds, including Prince Charles and Princess Diana and the Queen and Prince Philip, all posed for photographers.
The secrecy sparked a nationwide guessing game with alleged sightings of the couple from the Isles of Scilly to North East Scotland.
A Clarence House spokesman said last night: ‘The couple have asked the media to respect the privacy of their honeymoon, therefore we can neither confirm or deny speculation.’

Still bright-eyed after seven hours of hard partying: Olivia Hunt leaving the lengthy Royal Wedding reception

The serious partying began shortly before 8pm on Friday, when the bride emerged from Clarence House after four hours alone with her new husband.
Kate Middleton – now the Duchess of Cambridge – had changed from her wedding dress into a second Sarah Burton creation with circle skirt and sparkling diamante embroidery around the waist
For the public, the highpoint of the day had been the double kiss on the balcony at 1.25pm.
But for William and Kate the best was yet to come: a dinner and dance with 300 friends and family at Buckingham Palace.
Such was William’s desire to keep goings-on secret that some guests were required to sign secrecy agreements.
But from insider accounts, a picture has emerged of saucy speeches, pumping dance music, flamboyant dancing from our future Queen – and some cattiness between guests.
The first slip-up came at the Goring Hotel at about 7.30pm, when Kate’s mother Carole briefly lost her footing as she came down the stairs in a black tiered and pleated gown. She was steadied by her 23-year-old son James.
When William and Kate arrived at Buckingham Palace (at least 30 minutes later than planned), it was through a passage lined with flaming torches.
As the royal couple stepped into the 120ft ballroom, the guests rose and clapped loudly. Kate beamed.
The 30 circular tables, decorated with pretty white flowers, were named after the couple’s favourite places. There was Rhoscolyn – a village on Anglesey – and Tetbury, the Gloucestershire village near Highgrove.
Lewa, the Kenya game reserve owned by the family of William’s old flame Jecca Craig was there, as was Maun, a town in Botswana that Prince Harry calls ‘home’ on his Facebook page.
Dinner was sumptuous and above all British. To start, the chef Anton Mosimann presented Welsh dressed crab with miniature crab timbale, crayfish, prawns, salmon and langoustine.
The main course was Castle of Mey lamb with spring vegetables grown organically on Charles’s Highgrove estate.
Each guest was served three mini desserts on a single plate: sherry trifle, chocolate mousse and honeycomb ice-cream in a brandy snap basket.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Kate was said to have eaten little. Her nerves are likely to have been frayed and, even if she had an appetite, the cinched evening gown would have given very little room for food.
In fine fettle: William's 'old flame' Rosie Ruck Keene (left) and Lady Rose Astor (right) after the lively party on Friday evening
After coffee and petits fours came the speeches at about 10.15pm. Prince Harry went first and then acted as compere, introducing Kate’s father Michael Middleton, then the bridegroom himself and finally two of William’s best friends Thomas van Straubenzee and James Meade.
Then came the party which saw the Queen’s residence transformed into a full-blown nightclub venue complete with strobe lights and, eventually, a DJ playing music from rappers Tinie Tempah and Dizzee Rascal.
Around the circular bar, guests drank Pol Roger champagne, Sambuca slammers and cocktails including mojitos and the Boujis nightclub speciality Crack Baby – vodka, passion fruit, raspberry liqueur and champagne.
No wonder the 85-year-old Queen and Prince Philip, 89, stayed away.
While the chatter was mainly about how stunning the bride looked, there were some dissenting voices.
One report claimed that William’s former love Arabella Musgrave made critical observations about others’ outfits.
And another source told the Mail: ‘Inevitably everyone was judging everyone else, especially the women.
'I heard one person say they didn’t like Chelsy Davy’s turquoise skirt at the service, though her night-time outfit was much nicer.’
For William and Kate’s first dance, singer Ellie Goulding, 24, gave a rendition of Elton John’s Your Song and the couple held each other ‘close but not too close’.
Then Miss Goulding moved on to more upbeat music, including Blame It On The Boogie by the Jackson 5, Summer of ’69 by Bryan Adams, Superstition by Stevie Wonder and Mr Brightside by The Killers.
After ‘the oldies’ slipped away – Charles and Camilla at 12.30pm, Princess Anne and her husband Tim Laurence a few minutes later – Kate let her hair down.
She removed her fluffy white cardigan to expose her shoulders in the strapless gown, and danced with friends from St Andrews University and her stunning sister and chief bridesmaid Pippa, in plunging emerald sleeveless dress by Alice Temperley.
Kate continued dancing when Miss Goulding gave way at 1.30am to a DJ playing fast-paced rap and dance music with a heavy bass that could be heard outside the palace’s thick walls.
But of course Prince Harry – the Royal Family’s true party animal – was not to be outdone.
Reports that he crowd-surfed and danced on the windowsills were yesterday described by one source as ‘exaggerated’.
But such was the gusto of his dance moves that at one point he was said to have crashed to the floor.
Once he twirled Kate around so fast that it looked as if she might suffer the same fate, an onlooker said.
By about 2.30am, Harry’s partying rival Zara Phillips and her fiancé Mike Tindall had left, and the event felt as if it was drawing to an end.
Bacon butties were served and there was a fireworks display on the palace lawns, inevitably featuring a Catherine wheel.
William and Kate retired to bed not long afterwards. Yet many of their guests who left the party at this point looked surprisingly bright-eyed.
Among their number were Lady Rose Astor, wife of the princes’ friend Hugh van Cutsem, and two of William’s rumoured old flames, Rosie Ruck Keene and Olivia Hunt.
A long night ahead: William's godfather the Duke of Westminster
Tour guide: Harry provides commentary on the way to the Goring
Separate carriage: Chelsy Davy with Eugenie and Beatrice
By contrast, when Harry emerged shortly after 3am, he had lost his bow tie and dinner jacket, had his top buttons undone and was blurry-eyed.
He continued to play the court jester, clambering into a minibus and grabbing the microphone to provide a commentary for the other passengers, who are thought to have included
Pippa Middleton but – surprisingly – not his on-off girlfriend Chelsy Davy, 25.
They went on to an after-party at the Goring Hotel along with three other silver coaches filled with the most hard-core revellers.
A black Range Rover followed close behind carrying Chelsy, in a midnight blue one-shouldered gown, and Prince Andrew’s daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
Beatrice, 22, wore a purple-and-gold one-shouldered dress with a bizarre missing panel at the back – but had swapped her towering heels for white pumps to ease her aching feet.
Feeling the pace? Princes' friend Ed van Cutsem
Another fashion faux pas? Princess Beatrice
Other friends of Prince William had more energy and apparently gave each other piggy back rides from the palace along Buckingham Gate to the Goring, while swigging champagne straight from the bottle.
Carole Middleton, 56, is said to have lingered long at the after-party with her two youngest children.
One middle-aged guest said: ‘It was a lovely, lovely day. The evening reception was wild towards the end when I left, and left it to the kids – but it was a celebration for goodness' sake. And if you can’t let your hair down for a royal wedding, when can you?’
Additional reporting: Lydia Warren, Hannah Roberts, Eleanor Harding
Mother would be proud
In their speeches at the party, both of Princess Diana’s sons paid moving tributes to their mother.
Harry said she would have been ‘proud’ to witness the marriage of her eldest son to ‘beautiful’ Kate, who was ‘like a sister’. William referred to Kate as ‘my rock’, an echo of his mother’s alleged description of her butler Paul Burrell.
Harry’s speech also contained more light-hearted references. From the off, he sent guests into hysterics by referring to William as ‘a real dude’.
Mike Middleton’s speech was described as a ‘brilliant success’.
The father of the bride referred to William’s controversial decision to land a Chinook on the family’s Berkshire lawn as part of an RAF ‘training exercise’ in 2008.
According to one report, Mr Middleton joked: ‘I knew things were getting serious when I found a helicopter in my garden. I thought, “Gosh, he must like my daughter.”
‘I did wonder then how William was going to top this if they ever got engaged. I just thought, “What will he do?” You can’t get much better than that.’
The fourth speech, which came after 11pm, was the most raucous.
William’s friends Thomas van Straubenzee and James Meade did a double act in which they took it in turns to relay witty one-liners and anecdotes about the groom’s life.
Mr Meade is an Old Etonian whose nickname is Badger. It was at his father Richard’s party that Harry wore the now notorious Swastika fancy dress.
The pair’s gags are thought to have included mentions of Prince William’s stag do – and the time when he mysteriously wore a thong.
