Pensive: Nicole Scherzinger usually flashes a smile for photographers, but looked rather serious

The stress of on/off relationships might lend itself to premature wrinkles, but equally reliving the honeymoon stages again and again are a fair deal.

However, lovebirds Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton looked rather sombre last night.

The duo dined out at Chinese restaurant Hakkasan in Mayfair, but not even authentic cuisine - or his girlfriend's thigh high boots - could raise little more than a hint of a smile on the racing driver's face.

Nicole looked typically stylish and exceptionally groomed, with sleek Rapunzel locks so immaculate they appeared to be taken straight from the pages of a photoshopped magazine hair advert.

While the 33-year-old had applied plenty of blush for rose-tinted cheeks and created dramatic smokey eyes, it was blended cleverly so she didn't appear to be weighed down with stage make-up.

Affectionate: Despite the lack of smiles, the couple held hands

The former X Factor USA judge opted for a loose-fitting nude T-shirt dress, detailed with sheer bejeweled material and a gold band around the middle to create shape on the baggy garment.

She teased onlookers with an inch of flesh peeping out between the hemline and top of her boots.

Despite the slightly unceremonious dumping by Simon Cowell, Nicole still has plenty to smile about.

A fancy for leather: Nicole dons similar boots in Men In Black III alongside Jermaine Clement

The former Pussycat Doll has just finished her next album and is set to make her screen debut.

Last week, she tweeted: 'Just finished this record, can't wait for yall to hear it! Now on to the next...!!!'

Nicole will soon take centre stage in her first blockbuster film role, starring in Men in Black III.

But don't expect to see the Right There singer playing a damsel in distress, with Nicole taking on the role of feisty leather-clad baddie Lily Poison, an accomplice to leading man Boris (Jemaine Clement).

Hint of a smile? Lewis seems to soften his face as they leave Hakkasan in Mayfair
