Purr-fect figure: Anne Hathaway in her catsuit on the set of The Dark Knight Rises

She's been working hard to get her figure in the best shape ever ahead of playing Catwoman in the new Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises.

And yesterday Anne Hathaway showed off the results of all her work as she displayed her incredibly toned physique in her sexy Catwoman catsuit, which she labelled 'unforgiving' in a recent interview.

The 29-year-old actress looked svelte in the tight black outfit - the first time we have seen the new Catwoman outfit in its entirety.

Lovely in leather: Anne Hathaway is seen in her catsuit as she resurrects the role made famous by Michelle Pfeiffer nearly 20 years ago

Talking about getting in shape for the role, which was made famous by Michelle Pfeiffer almost two decades ago, Anne said earlier this year: 'I'm a vegetarian and right now, I'm living on kale and dust for the training. That catsuit's unforgiving.'

And, referring to her workout regime, she said: 'There's a workout hump where you're so weak that you hate everything, everything is so painful and you look like an idiot.

'The gym where I work out, I was literally working out next to a pregnant Jessica Alba and she could do more push-ups than I could. I've now just started to do Bikram yoga.'

Hotly anticipated: Miss Hathaway will star alongside Christian Bale as Batman and Gary Oldman (right), who returns as police chief Lt James Gordon

Smile! Anne grins as her dark red lipstick is reapplied by one of the make-up team.

Miss Pfeiffer donned the famous leather black costume for the 1992 film Batman Returns, with Michael Keaton playing the Caped Crusader and Danny DeVito co-starring as The Penguin.

In the new film, Miss Hathaway stars alongside Christian Bale, who plays the Bruce Wayne superhero for the third time - with British actor Gary Oldman reprising his role as police chief Lt James Gordon.

On Saturday, in Los Angeles, the trio were seen having their make-up retouched before they started filming.

In you get: Batman and Catwoman wait in the wings as they prepare to shoot another scene

Miss Hathaway – widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s most beautiful stars - rose to fame as the long-suffering assistant in The Devil Wears Prada.

Her most recent role was in the film version of the best-selling novel One Day, in which her Yorkshire accent in the starring role of Emma caused controversy.

And she has now admitted that attempting to master the Northern accent was far more taxing than preparing to play Catwoman.

Getting ready to rumble: Bale sits in the cockpit of the Batwing, Batman's new flying vehicle

Up, up and away: Lots of equipment was in place to make the Batwing look as realistic as possible

Speaking of the furore, she said: ‘I have learnt to toughen up if I am going to play in an accent not my own.

‘In One Day, I play a woman from Yorkshire and everybody said that I "sucked". It was a national outrage.

‘For me, trying to sound authentic in the role was harder by far than getting into shape to play my current role, Catwoman, in the next Batman movie.’

Flying machine: A special effects team was in place to make the Batwing appear as though it was flying

Retaliation: An army vehicle version of the Batmobile gets ready for action
