She's arrived! Tiny Cher Lloyd looked elegant in a black minidress suit as she arrived at a studio in south London today on her 18th birthday

Just last week, she hit out at people who criticised her looks, and accused them of being insecure bullies - but Cher Lloyd appears to have found the best way to make her haters eat their words.

The former X Factor contestant who came fourth on last year's show looked extraordinarily elegant and chic in an all-black ensemble as she arrived at a recording studio in London today as she celebrated her 18th birthday.

The Swagger Jagger singer literally appeared to have grown up overnight, wearing eye-wateringly high Louboutin stilettos with a tailored black jacket over a black minidress and gold necklace.

She'd accessorised with black tights, a pale pink bag - and a massive happy big smile.

The undeniably striking brunette has still got her edgy half shaved haircut too, but the rest looked shiny and healthy, hanging in pretty curls.

She was clearly having a fabulous day of it too, writing on her official Twitter account: 'Thank you all so much for the birthday messages! Big love! Xxxxxx'

Cher had arrived at the south London studio to celebrate her milestone birthday with her fans.

She was taking part in a live online stream of excerpts of her new album together with a live interview.

Despite dividing opinion while on - and after - the X Factor, she's got plenty of supporters two, with nearly half a million Twitter followers.

And even though the name-calling towards her has been harsh for someone who was until today only a child, she fiercely addressed them in her debut single Swagger Jagger, singing: 'Hi hater/ Kiss kiss/ See you later.'

Talking in last week' issue of Bliss magazine, the star seemed philosophical about the brickbats she got.

She mused: 'Some people find it hard to come to terms with the fact that everyone is different.

'I think it all boils down to their own insecurities - if you’re unhappy with yourself, you’re going to pick on someone else, and that’s what they’re doing. I feel sorry for them.'

Speaking of her upcoming track, she said: 'There are certain lines in the song that basically explain that, no matter what I do, people won’t stop writing about me and talking about me all the time.

'I’m still in people’s minds, whether they like me or they hate me.'

She also credited her fans with giving her strength, adding: 'It’s really good. I call them my brats because they’re feisty.

'I don’t even have to open my mouth - they do it for me. I couldn’t do it without them.'

Cher's debut single Swagger Jagger is out on 31 July, with her debut album following in November.
