In the clear: Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon have had the Child Protective Services investigation into their care for their twins closed

The social services investigation into Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon following the birth of their twins has finally been closed after officials decided there was no case to answer.

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services concluded that there was 'no merit' to the case, which was sparked by an anonymous tip-off saying the Glitter star had been drinking near the babies.

Apparently, social workers interviewed Mariah, 41, today and spent time with the twins before deciding her babies Moroccan and Monroe were in a 'healthy and safe environment'.

Celebrity website TMZ says Mariah's lawyer, Laura Wasser, was present for the duration of the DCFS interview.

The investigation was triggered by a phone call to DCFS complaining that Mariah had drunk Guinness while breast feeding.

The star and her husband were allowed to take their twins home from Cedars Sinai Medical Center last week, but their delight had been marred by the investigation into wheter drugs and alcohols were used near the babies in hospital.

Cannon, 30, and Carey, who have been married for three years, have been under investigation after the television host said someone may have overheard a nurse suggesting to Mariah to 'drink Guinness... the yeast improves breast-feeding'.

The case has now officially been closed after they received a visit by a case worker at their home lasted approximately 30 minutes.

Moroccan Scott and Monroe were born on April 30, both weighing under 6lbs.

Cannon told CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight last Thursday that the incident began after a nurse told Mariah about a traditional method of improving the yeast in breast milk.

'It all started where a nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink Guinness or a small amount of Guinness, the dark beer, that the yeast improves breastfeeding', he said.

'Then they were saying that my wife was drinking beer and all that stuff. It’s like people would do anything to conjure up a story.'

He said once he spoke to the Child Protective Services explaining that the comment was clearly taken out of context, all was resolved.

'When I spoke to the person for the CPS they said this is ridiculous,' he said.
He said that the negative press surrounding the twins birth was disappointing.
'Man it is more than one incident. There have been photographers posing as many people in the hospital,' he said.

Television personality and comic Nick meanwhile has said he is 'freaked out about being a new dad'.

On his radio show last week, he said he was worried about them suffocating or him having to possibly give them CPR one day.

'This is the kind of stuff that is making me go crazy when you have two new babies', he shared. 'I cannot relax. I am OCD-ing. They don't tell you this part about being a new parent.'

Cannon also recently revealed that his wife is not expected to reduce her work schedule even though she is now a mother of two.

The diva actually recorded a new album while she was pregnant with 'Roc + Roe' and plans to release it in the next few months.

'She's planning on having a record out this year. She's been working away, and we have a studio in the crib, and the pregnancy has totally inspired her on so many different levels. You're definitely gonna see some new phenomenal music from Mariah', Cannon shared.

The unusual monikers of the children have sentimental value to the couple, who renewed their marriage vows on the same day the children were born.

The top tier of Mariah’s New York City apartment is called the Moroccan Room, because of the Moroccan-inspired decor, and it is the room where Nick proposed to his wife.

Scott is Nick’s middle name, as well as his grandmother’s maiden name. Their daughter was named after Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe.
